frozen blueberry smoothie

A large deposit of frozen blueberries was discovered in the upstate downstairs freezer last weekend. Remember last summer’s blueberry rush? Well, we have somehow forgotten about the loot we had frozen in ziploc bags to sustain us through the winter.

Now the winter is almost over (I keep insisting on that) and we have barely made a dent in what was meant to be a year’s supply of vaccinium cyanococcus. So, we brought one bag back to the city and I just used a few handfuls to make a smoothie for breakfast. (both are pictured, left an right, respectively) With some soy milk, banana, almond butter, raw honey, a little maple syrup and some frozen açai pulp that’s been waiting for its moment in our urban freezer for about 2 years now.frozen blueberry smoothie

Now waiting for all the health effects to kick in. Wikipedia promises alleviation of cognitive decline, lowering of brain damage, enhanced memory (all very pressing concerns), prevention of urinary tract infections and cancer, reduced blood sugar, cholesterol and symptoms of depression, as well as lower blood pressure . . . Breakfast

Tried making a traditional Russian breakfast food – zapekanka, a baked cottage cheese souffle of sorts, with dried apricots – this morning. Came out totally different from what I intended but looked and tasted pretty good.

shakshouka inspired attempt to cure hangoverI found a great hangover recipe yesterday.  Not how to cure, but rather how to secure one.  Here are simple step-by-step instructions; I don’t think the sequence matters but in case you’re a stickler for details: (1) Blue Moon Belgian white beer – 1 glass, (2) champers – 2 flutes, (3) scotch on the rocks – 1 tumbler, (4) Tecate cerveza – 1 can.  Pour in gradually, over 4-5 hours.  Mix and mingle.  Cover and let steep overnight.  Add some Tylenol in the morning. Feel disgusting.  You see, the exquisite sensation that fills my body part formerly know as head today couldn’t have possibly been achieved by the fairly moderate quantity-per-hour ratio of consumed liquids.  It is the ingenious combination of ingredients that yields a guaranteed result.
