Fresh Juices

Feral Juice Recipes

I won’t lie, I love my juicer.  There are many excellent juice recipes out there.  I love reading and trying them out but most of the time, to be honest, I improvise using what’s in season.  Should a certain combination turn out particularly delicious, I shall write it down here — to remember and to share.

The yields are what my masticating juicer produces. If you’re using a regular centrifugal one, it’ll probably be somewhat less.

Fall Equinox (apples, ginger, mint, chard, kale, celery, pomegranate seeds)

I named it so because it has mint from the summer, apples from the fall, and kale – a leafy green that lasts long into the winter.  And the pomegranate seeds, of course!  The ones that sealed Persephone‘s 50-50 deal, remember?  After kidnapping Persephony into his realm of the dead and subsequently having been forced to return her back to Earth, Hades tricked her into eating 6 pomegranate seeds (generally, if you eat anything in the underworld, you have to stay there forever — and do the dishes for all of eternity, I think), thus obliging her to come back to him for half of the year…

Makes 2 large glasses of juice

  • 4 apples
  • 0.5″ – 1″ slice of ginger, peeled
  • ~10 mint leaves
  • 4-5 chard leaves (with stalks)
  • 2-3 medium kale leaves (with stalks)
  • 1-2 celery stalks
  • Seeds of 1/2 pomegranate
